PISA LEANING TOWER

It is the bell tower of the city cathedralbell tower, and in Italian it is called 'campanile'. The tower was constructed in 1173 but the structure was built on not so solid ground, so the tower began leaning early on!

It is said that Italian scientist Galileo Galilei used the tower for various gravity experiments, such as dropping various objects from the top of the tower. The tower is only about 56 m tall.

If you want to climb to the top of the tower, there are 251 steps to climb!

MARMORE WATERFALLS

Marmore Falls is a man-made waterfall created by the ancient Romans.
It is the tallest man-made waterfall in the world, in fact its total is height is 165 m.

It is located in the Italian region called Umbria, near Terni city.
Its source is a portion of the waters of the river Velino.

Tourists try to be there the moment the gates are opened to see the powerful rush of water

TRULLI:


A trullo (plural, trulli) is a traditional Apulian dry stone hut with a conical roof built without mortar.
They rise in Apulia, in Itria Valley (Southern Italy). The most famous town for its trulli - lined streets is Alberobello
They date back to the XVI when there were high fees on property so farmers from Apulia built these dwellings using the prehestoric building technique of dry stone walls that could be easily destroyed if an inspector paid a visit to them.

CASTELLANA

They are underground karst caves located in Castellana Grotte, in Apulia (Southern Italy). They date back to 90 millions years ago but they were first explored in 1938. They are at 330 m above sea level and extend for about 3 kilometres.
They have got astonishing stalactites and stalagmites which look like animals like the owl or human figures like the Little Virgin Mary.
The natural entrance to the caves is an enormous chasm sixty meters deep called the Grave. The caves and chasms have mythological or fantastic names like the Balck Cave, the She-wolf cave, the Owl cave, the underground Grand Canyon (of a reddish color due to the presence of iron minerals in this stretch), the Red Corridor, the Dome Cave, the White Grotto, which is bright and shining.

The Trevi Fountain is the largest of the famous fountains in Rome. It was built in front of the facade of Palazzo Poli by architect Nicola Salvi and it is in Baroque Style.
There is a myth linked to this fountain:


  • If you throw one coin: you will return to Rome.
  • If you throw two coins: you will fall in love with an attractive Italian.
  • If you throw three coins: you will marry the person that you met.
In order to achieve the desired effect, you should throw the coin with your right hand over your left shoulder.

ANPHITEATER ROMAN

LASAGNE

Lasagne is a typical pasta dish, which originates from Naples. Lasagne is made with layers of flat and square shaped pasta sheets dressed with tomato sauce.

Sometimes you can eat green coloured Lasagne sheets as well because pasta sheets are made with spinach. The way Lasagne is prepared varies from region to region but it is mostly dressed with Mozzarella, Ricotta (a soft cheese) and tomato sauce containing either minced meat or vegetables such as spinach or aubergines (eggplants).

PIZZA

Together with spaghetti, pizza is the symbolic dish of Italian cuisine. There are many types of pizzas, it depends on their dressing. Among the most famous varieties there are "Pizza Margherita", Pizza....
The main ingredients of the dough are: flour, water, salt and yeast.

PESTO

Pesto is a sauce used to dress pasta and it consists of blended basil leaves, garlic, olive oil, walnuts which is used to dress pasta. It is a typical dish from Liguria, a region which is in the North West part of Italy, but its origins date back to Roman times.
In the past, in most areas by La Spezia and Genova, people used to add leftover cheese rinds and potatoes as they were cheaper than pasta.
